On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake. A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood. She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine. An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains. Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince. Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night. Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

Let me start off by saying this was way better than Twilight! This was not a story about a big bad vampire who has to keep saving a poor helpless fall all over herself girl who can barely stand up for her self til the last book.
Sofia has been kidnapped and has no idea if these people will kill her, or better yet rap her then kill her. All she knows is to be strong, and when she catches the eye of the "King/Prince" she knows she cannot show fea, fear just leads to death.
I did have a few issues with the book, scenes i felt like had already been used and where being reused in this book. :
1. The sappy romance scenes throughout the whole book kept reminding me of twilight, they just felt like they had been used before and to me was not believable enough at times.
2. The ripping the heart out scenes, this has vampire diaries and Once upon a time written all over it. This too didn't catch my interest because I have seen it before in every other vampire inspired book and movie out there....really people how many times can you rip out a heart before it gets to the point that its boring.
3. This book also made a BIG mistake. If you have ever seen Beauty and the Beast you shall remember the scene where the beast takes Bell to his private library to make her happy....well folks this same scene was used in this book as well. Derek takes Sofia to his library and she falls in love wih his books. Another scene used is the fact that at the end of Beauty and The Beast, Beast lets bell go...."If you love something and set it free and if it comes back then you know its meant to be." well this was also used in this book...now I have not read the second book so I don't know if Sofia stayed or left...I do know they shared a steamy good bye kiss.
4. The music....Just like in Twilight when Edward takes his human to see him play his music and she falls in love with him...well sadly that was also used in this book as well. Derek playes for Sofia and she falls in love with it....seen it....
5. Again in Twilight when James feed from Bella (lord i don't remember her name) and goes on a hunt after her...well this also happens in the Shade, Lucas is Derek's brother and feeds off and does a few other things to Sofia to the point Derek almost kills him but doesn't. However I am sure we will see more of him in the next few books.
Now don't take my word for all these similarities it could just be me since I have seen it all and basically read it all. This book was interesting and I was hooked! it was witty and easy to read not too full of details but just right. I do believe this is going to be a really good series I don't know if it was worth 18 books but in time we will see.
I gave this first book 5 stars and say I recommend it to all Vampire lovers!!!! you will love this first book, I know I did. and the GREAT thing about it is you can get it in ebook form on amazon for 2.99 or in the kinle unlimited deal and read all 18 books for free.
