Time is out of joint. The summer of peace and plenty, ten years long, is drawing to a close, and the harsh, chill winter approaches like an angry beast. Two great leaders—Lord Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon—who held sway over an age of enforced peace are dead...victims of royal treachery. Now, from the ancient citadel of Dragonstone to the forbidding shores of Winterfell, chaos reigns, as pretenders to the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms prepare to stake their claims through tempest, turmoil, and war. As a prophecy of doom cuts across the sky—a comet the color of blood and flame—six factions struggle for control of a divided land. Eddard's son Robb has declared himself King in the North. In the south, Joffrey, the heir apparent, rules in name only, victim of the scheming courtiers who teem over King's Landing. Robert's two brothers each seek their own dominion, while a disfavored house turns once more to conquest. And a continent away, an exiled queen, the Mother of Dragons, risks everything to lead her precious brood across a hard hot desert to win back the crown that is rightfully hers. A Clash of Kings transports us into a magnificent, forgotten land of revelry and revenge, wizardry and wartime. It is a tale in which maidens cavort with madmen, brother plots against brother, and the dead rise to walk in the night. Here a princess masquerades as an orphan boy; a knight of the mind prepares a poison for a treacherous sorceress; and wild men descend from the Mountains of the Moon to ravage the countryside. Against a backdrop of incest and fratricide, alchemy and murder, the price of glory may be measured in blood. And the spoils of victory may just go to the men and women possessed of the coldest steel...and the coldest hearts. For when rulers clash, all of the land feels the tremors. Audacious, inventive, brilliantly imagined, A Clash of Kings is a novel of dazzling beauty and boundless enchantment;a tale of pure excitement you will never forget.
BBREVIEW RAITING 4.5 STARS
After watching the show and sadly getting hooked on it like a mad person and rewatching it and all the seasons along with season 6 over again, I tried my hand at reading book 2 once more and I must say I highly enjoyed it. The show really follows the books well except for a few things that are differenly but it is still really close in all ways.
I seem to see that these books are around three main houses.
House Lannister who always pays their debts, ruler's of the 7 kingdom's and always looking for a good war to be in. the main people from this house is:
Queen Regent Cersei who even though doesn't want to say it out loud, really wants the iron throne for herself and not her kids.
Tyrion the imp. small half man but cunning and always knows how to get under his sisters skin, these two have a battle between themselves more than they do with the Starks. Tyrion takes over as Hand of the King until his father the true Hand of the King can come into office. Tyrion also has a whore living inside the castle without everyone knowing...Shae...which we will need to watch out for her even though you might think she is not important. As well as his body guard the sellsword Bronn. who might not seem like much now but will be soon enough.
King Joffrey, who is the first born of Robert B. who died in the previous book. The king also had a hand in starting the war with the Starks after he bruttally killed Ned Stark the previous hand of the King for treason because Ned knew that Joffery is actually the bastard born to Cersei and her brother Jamie Lannister.
Jamie Lannister (Kingslayer) who killed the mad king, tried to kill Ned Stark and ran off to join a war against the north in order to free his brother Tyrion but then got captured himself not sits in Ned Starks son's sell rotting on his own Sh*t.
House Stark
Robb Stark was named King in the North and promised to a Frey daughter as long as he gets men for his army.
Jon Snow-bastard of Ned Stark who joined the nights watch to fight wildlings and defend against the undead.
Bran-crippled but now on a journey to find the three eyeed ravon to see what type of power he has inside him
The mother is annoying, yes I know she is worried about her kids but i really cannot stand her character in this book.
Sansa is a captive of Cersei and her son, she is tortured daily by Joffery and the only thing she wants is to get out of Kingslanding and go home to her family
Arya is on her way home to the North dressed as a boy heading to the wall.
The Dragon Queen and true heir to the Throne Danny. after the death of her husband and son, she brings forward three dragons and sets off in search of help to make an army and sail to the iron throne but she has many miles to go and people are still out to kill her and not to steal her dragon's.
Above all this book is really good. and I must say all characters are important. even Theon GreyJoy who was once the captive of Ned Starks family but set free by Robb because he believed that th Greyjoy's would come to his aid but n=instead Theon kills his brothers and takes his home away from him....But the new family Boltons are coming to take it back.
I love this book and I recommend it as well it was a good read, a little long and a little too much page after page detail but it all worked out in the end. I did find myself flipping through a few pages because it was like the author wanted to detail everything but it was still good and easy to follow as well.
