The years-long New York Times bestseller and Goodreads Best Historical Novel that is “irresistible…seductive…with a high concept plot that keeps you riveted from the first page” (O, The Oprah Magazine)—soon to be a major motion picture from Spielberg’s Dreamworks starring Michael Fassbender, Rachel Weisz, and Alicia Vikander, and directed by Derek Cianfrance. After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby. Tom, who keeps meticulous records and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel insists the baby is a “gift from God,” and against Tom’s judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.

So I really had high hopes for this book since seeing the previews and how amazing the movie looks. But I was not happy with this book at all. It was boring, unoriginal and really reminded me of N. Sparks and his novels.

The only thing that was good about this book was the cover which draws your eyes to the book but once you start reading it its like she moves from the past to the present to the end then back to the past and it does not have a simple plot theme which really makes it good to read at all.

I wouldn't really recommend this book at all its boring. The End it was a HUG let down to me it was not good at all even for it to be her first book ever she should try not to use other peoples angels on getting this book out.
