17 Year old snow has spent her life locked in Whittaker Psychiatric--But she isn't crazy. And that's not the worst of it. Her very first Kiss proves anything but innocent...When Bale, her only love, turns violent.
Bbreview Review of Stealing Snow:
We all know Miss. Paige for her book Dorothy Must Die, The Wicked will Rise, and Yellow Brick War. And now this stunning writer is back with yet another amazing story recreating what I believe was Snow White and turning into a much darker fairy tale with twist and turns to have us all dropping our jaws and wondering when the next installment will come out.
So let's dig right into Stealing Snow shall we....in this review we are going to break it down, hard!
Pro's of this book
Nice cover work, the cover caught my eye faster than the author name did, it has a feel of beauty and the beast mirror with a twist of Snow White "Mirror Mirror on the wall who is the fairest of them all" theme.
I have found this book is best read while listening to Castle OR Breath of life--both songs used for the movies Snow white and the Huntsman and The Huntsman. Both good movies and I can see them both having a play in this book as well.
Nice story line, great action, romance, and drama.
Has a nice prophecy:
"She Brings the snow with her touch,
They think she's gone, but we know
She will come again,
She will reign i his stead,
She will bring down the world on his head,
Oh come, snow, come"
Con's (a few set backs)
The story line is a little too close to Dorothy Must Die, Girl grows up in bad home or environment, gets whisked away to a magical land and then finds out they have magic and undergoes a new look and battle plane then learns how to fight to win the war and at the very last minute when they are about to win....the story ends and we are left with a cliff hanger.
In some parts of the book--the details and fight scenes did get a little long but what got me the most was how this girl went through so many trainers--teachers who show her how to fight and tell her different versions of the story
First In the beginning snow is in a mental Hospital which to me was a really good scene opening because its different from the princess being in a tower or not knowing who she is and growing up alone. While in this hospital Snow falls madly in love with a boy just as messed up as her with the name Bale (which she gives him). Keep in mind this is NOT the only boy she falls for which was another thing I personally did not care for. She then meets an orderly named Jagger who tells her she must stop taking her meds given to her and follow the tree back to her world where her people will be waiting on their knee's for her. So she does find the tree and crosses it into another world. Jagger is actually a robber sent to bring (not her) but a different girl back but seeing as Snow has more power he brings her back instead.
So before she begins her journey her and Jagger are separated and Snow jumps off a cliff into the river--there she meets another person, her name is the River Witch Nepenthe While with The river witch she learns more about her magic and her prophecy that will bring her one step closer to killing King Lazar who is also her father!
As the story goes long ago The king fell in love with Ora (a witch who loves him too) The King has a special power which allows him to control snow, but he becomes evil and Ora leaves her sister(s) witch in order to marry him and has a baby. But with his power comes the conclusion that one day his daughter will be stronger than him and will kill him...so Ora takes her child and crosses the tree (which is like a door between worlds) but ends up putting her daughter into a mental hospital to protect her even more. (Remember this little tib bit readers because in the last few chapters of the book this will be an important thing.)
So Snow stays with the River witch for a while learning how to use her magic but now really knowing how to control it, She meets Kai and Gerde two people who work with the River Witch, Kai falls for Snow but Snow turns him down for her Boyfriend Bale who was kidnapped by King Lazar. Then Snow escapes the River Witch and meets back up with Jagger who takes her back to his home with all his robber friends. She learns that these robbers do not have magic they just borrow it and bottle it up and take it like drugs which the saying Just say no comes in handing for Snow because she turns them down at every turn so she doesn't have to take the stuff herself. While there Jagger becomes her teacher and teaches her how to rob because she has to rob The Duchess for a piece of a mirror that is the source of King Lazar's power. Queen Margot of the Robbers also teaches her more of the past and how to use the bottles of magic and also like the witch she promises she will help Snow find Bale BUT Snow has to help them BOTH first.
I did not like how Snow was a needy person it was always Bale this and Bale that...I don't want to fight, don't kiss me I love Bale....Now i have feelings for Jagger...oh wait there is Kai!
That got boring. I believe IF a person is going to have a hero as a woman or girl then they should minimize the the use of romance and crushes and worry more about making them into a battle ready person who wants to win the war. Stop adding so many distractions to the mix.
I did like this story line but like I said it was a little too similar to her first book Dorothy Must Die. However it had better plot twist a cool death ending but the romance and the last short ass chapter of the book was a little too much for me...should of made the last chapter a few pages longer or left it off and added maybe one other lover choice instead of THREE.
but as we say the first book must come to an end and I must say YES! i recommend this book to all readers who enjoy Danielle Paige and her amazing imagination. I also give this book a 3.5 star I am sorry Miss Paige but the only thing that threw me off was Kai, Jagger and needy I want Bale--along with the two different teachers possible more in the next book. BUT GREAT ENDING ON THE SURPRISE KILLING OF....... (sorry guys I cannot give that spoiler away)
So run off to your book store before this snow storm sets in this weekend because you will be sure to want to get this book for a good read.
