The 5th Wave, Rick Yancey.

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd wave, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. after the 4th wave, only one rule applies: Trust no one.

Hey guys I'm back with another review and this time we will be breaking down one of the most talked about worst yet best book of all times. That's right buckle up sci-fi fans its time for the 5th wave.
So back in 2015 We tried our hardest to sit down and read this book with no luck at all. I believe the reason for that was because we looked at others reviews before reading it and it gave us mixed feelings about completing it on our reading list for last year. But I never like leaving a book unfinished and as one of my new years resolutions this year is to get this book and all others on my "want to read" reading list read.
So We have pretty bad ass characters in this book, they are:
Cassie
Sammy A.K.A. nugget
Ben Parish A.K.A Private Zombie A.K.A. chickenshit
Evan Walker A.K.A The Silencer
Before I go on, if you have not read this book please know that this review contains spoilers for the book NOT the movie, Like I always say "Never compare the book to the bad movie."

In the Beginning of the book Cassie is alone and believes she could be the last person (because she hasn't seen anyone for weeks, months.)
so she starts off by writing in a diary and talks about how she lost her brother to the "others" and how now she is on a mission to get him back at all cost.
Cassie briefly tells us about the waves and what happened but in my opinion I believe that the author should of started the book with the waves and then go into her story to give us a better view of who she is.
Cassie's story in the beginning is boring and depressing leaving little to the imagination of what the book will be like. which is why I believe most people stopped reading the book altogether.
Just before Cassie's story
ends she gets shot in the leg by an Other called "The Silencer" sent by the 4th wave to silence any surviver of the other waves. Cassie decides no more running, she gets up and aims right at the silencer and tells them to say:
"I may be the last one, but I am the one still standing. I am the one turning to face the faceless hunter in the woods on an abandoned highway. I am the last one, then I am humanity." Pg 101

The story then opens up to was private Zombie which formally known as Ben Parish--the crush Cassie talked about in the beginning of the book but we don't know that until he gives his name later on in the story.
When we meet Zombie he is sick with the Red Death which is the 3rd wave. a virus that most people will not survive.
Zombie is rescued and saved, taken to Camp Haven where he is saved from the virus. He is then given a choice, let himself die or make a choice to live on get better and become something more. Once Zombie decides to live he meets a man named Vosch.
"You are the human clay," Vosch whispers fiercely in my ear.
"And I am Michelangelo. I am the master builder, and you will be my masterpiece."
Zombie and other children like him are then trained in the army way, making them into deadly soldiers built for one thing only, kill the others who also look like humans but who are not.
Zombie graduates and is made a sergeant. he then leads his team into a battle to kill the others. They all have a tracker put into their necks and then shown an other (alien) then they are asked if they want to kill that alien and once they do they pass the last test and sent to the "Wonderland" which then maps their life and shows the army what happens every step of the way. As Zombie is on his little mission, he and his team realize this is the 5th wave they are trained by the others to kill each other off, they are lied to about who the aliens are and the result is, they are the ones doing the aliens dirty work.

The 4th Wave-- The Silencer
Sent out to kill any stray human still hoping to live. he is tracking Cassie, reading her journal learning her ways until the day he shoots her in the leg because he does not want to kill her. he secretly screams in his head for her to run because he knows that if she does not he will have to kill her right then.
But Cassie gets up, she turns to where she thinks he is and she faces him.
Now here is the cool part. The Silencer is also Evan Walker. who saves Cassie after she's been shot, nurses her back to health and then goes with her to rescue her brother before finally telling her he is an other but he does not want the same thing as what the other alien's do. In the end Evan is a hero for blowing or attempting to blow up Camp Haven.
lastly, Cassie does find her brother again and she also finds Ben, they are rescued by Ben's former team and this is where the story ends. We do not know if this is the end, Did Evan survive or not. we will have to read the next book to figure this all out.
So I can officially say I have finally read this book and I liked it. It was boring at first but one you figure out what is going on and get the idea of the book that is does not follow one set character then you can enjoy the book a little better.
But let me do say this, This book is way to close to the book called The Host which was written by the same person who wrote Twilight. in which the aliens take over the human body and looks like humans and passes themself off like humans but who also takes the children not to save them but to implant more aliens into them.
So yeah this is basically like every other alien book written with a twist of zombie apocalypses type feeling.
I'd say read it. but DON'T read the reviews before reading it otherwise like me you will not want to finish it.
