The only book I liked from James dashner was the maze runner. It was insightful and thrilling and something new which has the girl as the violin and the boy as the hero (upgrade from most books I've read). Even though I gave up trying to read the books after the second one. When I found the fever code I wanted to read it because as it stated in the description it was a book leading up to how thomas and Teresa knew everyone and how they made the maze. The book starts off with everyone's favorite character Newt. Who watches as wicked storms his house to take his sister, his mother and father fight them off only to be killed and for them to end up having to take Newt in the end as well as his sister....(big shock finding out he had a sister) We then meet Stephen who we later find out was renamed to Thomas. And like the maze runner thomas is a hard headed five year old not willing to give up his real name until he was forced to do so. Thomas goes a few months without meeting anyone or knowing anyone until he spots Teresa and tries to save her from a brain implant which goes wrong and just makes thomas look like an idiot. Later the two find out they can talk to each other in their minds which instantly makes them close friends. Soon after thomas and Teresa meet the main characters from the other books. Americas sweet heart Newt, strong willed Minho, fun loving chuck, leader and strong Alby and cant be trusted Galley. Yes he is in this book AGAIN! Galley and Minho decide they don't want to be apart of wicked so galley helps Minho with a plan to run away but just like in the maze runner galley cannot be trusted and he ends turning Minho in. Which leads to three people being forced into watching Minho tortured by the monsters from the maze. Later on thomas and Teresa are tricked into helping wicked build the maze...their mission is to track brain waves from the gladers and report back to wicked with what they find. However when wicked is infected with cranks thomas and a few others are left with having to kill them and make thomas dr. The head leader. Thomas decides to go into the maze with all his memories to help the gladers escape wicked and from being sent into another trial but the plane back fires when dr. Paige takes his memories. The end is great....because Teresa and one other go into the glade with their memories in order to report back to wicked on everything...which no one knows. In all we meet and learn about some very important characters which we will see again in the other books. This book was amazing and I am actually glad dashner finally wrote a book explaining who is who and what wicked is. I do believe this book should have been published first to make the series a little more interesting for me and like the other books this one is filled with short chapters and they pick up where the last chapter left off. I do recommend this book if you are a maze runner fan. 4/5 star rating
